Survival Tips:
Dont be afraid to ask your doctor for an emergency supply of your crucial medications. In today's world of terrorists and super storms, most doctors will understand your need and comply with your request.
In cold climates, cotton kills. It soaks up moisture keeping it next to your body wicking heat away. Cotton is hypothermia's friend, not yours. Merino wool isn't itchy next to your skin and there are plenty of cold weather synthetics on the market.
Is it fall yet? Time to update your survival kits to accommodate the changes Mother Nature has in store. Be prepared with warm gloves, extra sweaters, long johns, and a wind and waterproof outer layer. Dont forget some wool socks
If summer is in full swing, beat the heat with a wet bandana tied around your head. It will help cool you by evaporation. Siesta during the heat of the day is not a bad idea either. Stay hydrated.
Mother Nature will provide survival food in the wilderness, but you must be ever vigilant. She does not tolerate mistakes well. Learn what is edible in your area. If you have any doubts whatsoever about the identification of any wild plant or mushroom, don't eat it!
To create a tie point on your tarp where there is no grommet, wrap a small stone inside the tarp and tie it there. (Use the clove hitch, mooring hitch, or the cinch knot for this purpose.) This will give you a secure anchor for tying to ground stakes or whatever is handy without poking a hole in your tarp.  This will also work on a blanket.
A part of readying your survival gear for your summer expeditions is to ensure that your tools are properly sharpened. Early in the year is a good time to inspect all of your current survival gear for any damage caused by mice, bugs, the mildew monster, excessive wear, or out of date items and address these issues.
A healthy survival attitude will give you the mental strength to endure. You can strengthen your survival attitude by practicing the following:
In any wilderness situation, rest often. Exhaustion causes poor judgment and accidents.
Think practical when choosing your wilderness clothing, the wild critters won’t care what you are wearing.
Any knot or kink in a line will slightly weaken the line by stressing the fibers unevenly. Learn how to tie a few basic knots that can be used for a multitude of different situations. Our videos will show you some down-right handy ways to twist up a piece of line to make it work for you.
Put your survival kits together before you need them. If you wait until you need them, it’s too late.
To stay healthy and hydrated, an adult needs three quarts of water per day. You can survive for quite a while on one quart a day but your strength and energy levels will radically drop alopg with your cognitive abilities.
If your matches are damp, comb the head of the match through dry hair fifteen or twenty times to draw off excess moisture. The static will aid in drying the match. Do the same with the striker.
